The early morning sun's rays were already warming the stubble of the fallow field and a sudden twittering filled the air. Then, as if from nowhere, two swallows came zooming towards us like tiny jet planes at knee height, yellow beaks gaping wide. They veered up and away then came racing back to continue their feast on the insects buzzing over the old field.
